My friends and I were planning a vacation and came across Punta Cana as an option on Zurfers. We decided it would be a great sport for us, as the beaches looked lovely and we read a bunch of really great reviews on the destination.
So, just a few weeks later we departed for an amazing, all-inclusive resort stay in Punta Cana. Over five glorious days, we relaxed, partied and adventured – here were some of our favorite memories.
We took a trip to the Hoyo Azul cenote as our first activity after we’d checked in to our resort. It’s located within Scape Park, so after we swam in the amazing pool, we also did a walking tour around the park, learning about some native flora and fauna.
We had heard a lot about Punta Cana’s nightlife, so we decided to experience it for ourselves. We stopped by Jewel, one of the largest and most popular nightclubs in the area, which was a lot of fun and had a nice crowd. On other nights during our stay we also enjoyed Coco Bongo – half nightclub, half Cirque d’Soleil performance – and the exclusive Pearl Beach Club.
There’s no better way to recover from a late night of dancing than resting on a beautiful beach – and luckily, there’s no better place for beautiful beaches than Punta Cana! After an indulgent breakfast, the five of us made our way to the Playa Juanillo, which was truly one of the most spectacular places any of us had ever seen.
The following day we decided to explore what life is like in the Dominican Republic for the locals, so we got out of the resort and went on a tour of the nearby city Santo Domingo. Santo Domingo was very beautiful and quaint, like stepping back in time.
Although the beaches around Punta Cana were beautiful, we kept hearing about Saona Island, so decided to go and see it for ourselves. We ended up joining a group boat tour, which was a great decision, as the boat ride to the island a lot of fun itself. Once we got to Saona, it was even better: it’s a cliché, but it truly did look like paradise. The waters were super clear. A great piece of advice given to us by our tour operator was to not lift the starfish! Apparently, a lot of tourists lift them out of the water for selfies, and it causes them irreversible damage to their tissue! The starfish are so large and beautiful; enjoying them from the bottom of the sea is equally as gratifying (and cruelty-free)!
Our day spent enjoying this incredible place – and our amazing week in Punta Cana - will surely go down as some of the best memories of our friendship.
