There’s no doubt that Cancun, Mexico is one of the best places for a relaxing summer break. With its hedonistic nightlife, delicious food and beautiful beaches, it had long been on my list of places to visit.
As it turns out, Cancun was also on the wish list for several of my girlfriends, as we discovered over Friday night drinks. As soon as my friend mentioned wanting a break, we all agreed that we were long overdue for a week away.
Before long, we’d booked ourselves rooms on Zurfers and we were off for a week of fun in the sun.
As soon as we arrived at our hotel, we decided to spend our first day at the beach and we spent a relaxing day at Playa Delfines. Aside from the beautiful beach, it’s also famous for its colorful ‘Cancun’ signs, which we snapped photos in front of for Instagram feeds.
That night, we decided to have our first taste of Cancun’s legendary nightlife. Our first clubbing experience in Cancun was amazing, as we visited Coco Bonga. We had never seen a nightclub anything like it, with its fire dancers and acrobats.
The following day, we decided to catch the ferry across to Isla Mujeres to swim off our hangovers and do some relaxing. Catching the ferry turned out to be pretty easy, and we were soon on Isla Mujeres, a much quieter place than downtown Cancun. We borrowed some snorkels from a shop along the beach, and did some paddling around as well as tanning. After a blissful day, we returned back to our hotel and had a few drinks in the hotel bar as we knew the following day would be a big one.
On our third day in Cancun, we woke up at dawn to head out to Chichen Itza. We were all excited to see the pyramid, which is one of the 7 Wonders of the World, and it didn’t disappoint. In fact, the site was a lot bigger than I had expected. The cenote where human sacrifices were held was creepy, but I definitely recommend you make sure to see it!
Although it was beautiful, it was also very hot. Luckily, there are many beautiful, cool cenotes (where no one was ever sacrificed) to swim in. We spent an hour paddling in one, which was the perfect way to cool off before we drove back to Cancun.
That evening, we decided to make the most of our last night and went out for another night of dancing. This time we visited The City, one of the biggest nightclubs I have ever seen. The music was fantastic and we loved the variety of cocktails as well. Thanks to our late night, the next day we again opted for some rest and relaxation, starting off by the hotel pool before heading back to the beach. We were happy and relaxed by the time the end of our break rolled around, already planning when our next trip to Cancun would be.
